Improve your French while on holiday - classes are relaxed and fun!
What are the classes like?
We are not a language school. We offer enjoyable sessions in a very relaxed environment with the simple aim of helping you get more out of your holiday. Our main emphasis is on building up your capability and confidence to SPEAK the language. We are not 'total immersion' as in a relatively short timescale it is quicker to explain certain things in English, but you will get plenty of opportunity to speak French. Classes are held inside our 150 year old, air-conditioned ‘mas’ or on the terrace, depending on the weather.
Is it for you?
Many adults fear that they have left it too late to learn or improve a foreign language but it’s never too late and with the right encouragement and support, in a relaxed environment, you’ll probably surprise yourself. The most you will do is 15 hours tuition so while complete beginners are welcome, people with at least a little knowledge will progress further. Courses are tailored to individuals but are loosely categorised as either False Beginners or Intermediate level. Some of our visitors come alone, others come with partners. If you are with a non-participating partner, we can recommend things for them to do while you are learning French. Often, partners join us during the short coffee break.
What can I learn in such a short time?
The five-day course runs for 3 hours a day Monday to Friday. You can opt for one-to-one tuition or join a small group of up to 4 others of a similar level. You will learn new vocabulary and useful phrases, get tips on pronunciation and intonation and a grounding in relevant grammar. We take you out to get some practice relevant to that day's class on at least one occasion, and you will be encouraged to go and use what you’ve learned in real situations on your own too. Most of all, you will be given the tools to increase your confidence in simply having a go. In the end, it’s the only way to learn!
Your tutor
Tricia taught French for 7 years in adult and further education centres in England before returning to the marketing communications business she started out in. During that time, she helped many adults to develop their confidence in speaking French and get much more from their holidays in French-speaking countries. Having had connections with the Alpilles area of Provence for over 20 years, including a home here since 2000, Tricia and her husband Derek love to share their knowledge of the region’s attractions and culture.
Price
Because we tailor courses to suit the individual, prices vary depending on the option you choose. As a guide, a 15-hour course in a small group over 5 mornings, including a visit to St Remy market or an olive mill, is €400 (not including accommodation). This includes tuition, a folder of materials to take home for revision, refreshments and transport during the visit. Talk to Tricia about your requirements and we'll be happy to quote you.
